The Philippine Political System (Philippine Politics) follows the rules laid down by the Constitution of the Philippines. Philippine politics revolves around three separate and distinct branches: the executive branch, the judicial branch, and the legislative branch.

The executive branch of the Philippine political system is headed by the President who acts also as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Philippine law states that the President should be elected by popular vote and will serve his/her term for a period of 6 years.

The executive branch of Philippine government is the one who executes laws enacted by the Congress of the Philippines. The executive branch is composed of government agencies which enforce these laws throughout the Philippines.

The Congress of the Philippines follows a bicameral framework. It is composed of the Senate (upper chamber) and the House of Representatives. In all, they constitute the legislative branch of Philippine government. The one who leads the Senate is the Senate Preseident and the Speaker of the House is the one who heads the House of Representatives. As of the moment philippine politics is convoluted with different issues arising from misunderstanding between the upper and lower chambers of Congress.

The Supreme Court of the Philippines and the lower courts compose the judicial branch of the political system of the Philippines. It is headed by the Chief Justice who is appointed by the President of the Philippines on recommendation of the Judicial and Bar Council. In interpreting Philippine laws, the Chief Justice is assisted by 14 Associate Justices.

Apart from these branches, the Philippines is divided also into a hierarchy of local goverment units (LGUs) throughout the land with the province as the largest division. A province is subdivided into cities and municipalities which are headed by a city or town mayor. The smallest division of a local government unit is a barangay which is headed by a barangay captain. Various barangays compose a town or city.
