Palawan Province is noted for its beautiful white-sand beaches and pristine waters that would be the envy of other tourist destinations around the world.

It is a narrow archipelago of about 1,780 on the western part of central Philippines which stretch from Mindoro in the northeast to Borneo in the soutwest.

 

Palawan's long coastline stretching almost 2,000 kilometers and the nearby islands that dotted the borders of the province in all directions boast some of the world's most beautiful beaches like that of Coron Island. It has been described by reknowned underwater explorer Jacques Cousteau as having one of the most beautiful seascapes in the world.

The province has a total land area of about 14,800 square kilometers which is islands on the western part of central Philippinesinhabited by a melting pot of about 80 different cultural communities. It has been cited by the National Geographic Traveler magazine as the best island destinatination in the East and Southeast Asia in 2007. Palawan is home to a total 232 endemic species; some of them already under the endangered species list and are protected by the governement.

The province of Palawan won the Destination of the Year Award from the Kalakbay Awards (the highest national award-giving body for tourism) in 1995, making the province known as one of the top tourist destinations in the country. In 2002, the tourists coming to Palawan steadily increased thanks to the extensive efforts done by Palawan's Tourism Council and the Department of Tourism of the Philippines. Top in the list of destinations are the Miniloc Island Resort, Lagen Island Resort and Club Paradise Resort.

Other attractions found in the Province are the following:

1) El-Nido is a group of secluded islands mostly made of black marble; its jagged cliffs rising to a few thousan feet making the scene majestic and awesome.

2)St. Paul Subterranean National Park is blessed with an underground river leading to a lagoon unique in beauty.

3) The Tabon Caves is composed of 29 caves where the fossilized remains of the Tabon Man was found. The area is oftenly called the cradle of Philippine civilization.

4) Tubbataha Reef is recognized as one of the most beautiful dive sites in the world. It is located in the Sulu Sea and is teeming with marine life like sea turtle and different species of fishes.

4) Calauit National Park is located in Busuanga Island. It has a 4000-hectare land area where animals not found in the region can be seen like zebras, giraffes and gazelles.
