Various Philippine sports and recreations are played in the Philippines by the Filipino young and old. Common sports like soccer, billiards, basketball, volleyball and boxing are the Philippine sports with huge following. By and far, boxing and basketball enjoy the most followers of sports enthusiasts in the country.

The emergence of boxing's prominence in the country is due in part to Manny Pacquiao's boxing feats and the many successes of some of the Filipino sports professional boxers. Basketball has been played in the country for the longer time; this being an influence by the Americans during their stay in the early 1900s.
Other than these major Filipino sports, other minor sports are also being enjoyed by Filipinos like swimming, baseball, martial arts and athletics. Filipinos love to play these sports with zest and vigor that trainings and sports seminars are held all year round for the development of Philippine sports. Some of these activities are administered by the Philippine Sports Commission.

These activities usually lead to some individuals making a professional career out of these sports. Professional Filipino basketball players play in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) leagues and tournaments, emerging boxing heroes box their way towards world prominence by joining local fights, while some try their had in professional billiards where they usually succeed like Django Bustamane and Efren Reyes.
With a population of over 80 million, some Filipinos are just content with other minor recreational activities such as karaoke-singing and playing cards. In lull afternoons and early night, some try their hands playing mahjong and cockfighting - the latter is an influence by the Spaniards during their occupation of the Philippines.
Although the Philippines share with other countries sports and recreation which are commonly engage in worldwide, it is replete with sports and recreation activities which are uniquely Filipino. These Philippine traditional games are patintero, luksong-tinik, piko, pikit-nulag and many more. These sports and games complement to the Filipino ways of amusement and enjoyment.
