El Nido, Palawan, Philippines

El Nido in the Philippines, is a municipality in the northernmost part of the Province of Palawan, about 238 kilometers northeast from Palawan Province's capital, Puerto Princesa. El Nido, Palawan consists of 45 islands and islets which possess some of the best white sand beaches in the world.

If you haven't been to the place, try imagining El Nido's picturesque landscape as similar to Vietnam's Ha Long Bay, Guilin in China or Thailand's Krabi which have beautiful limestone cliffs carved by a thousand years of erosion.

Until quite recently, El Nido's scenic landscape and beaches remained unnoticed by human tourism. Way back then, "El Nido was quite remote from most of the inhabited islands in the Philippines, its pristine beauty was hidden to the world until 1979 when a sea accident happened in Bacuit Bay.

As the story goes, 'a tuna line disabled a dive boat's propeller in the middle of the night forcing it to drop anchor in an inlet. The following morning, the divers woke up to an amazing scenery of skyscraping dark cliffs, thick green forest, white sand beaches, sparkling water and, rising above it, a series of magnificently sculpted jade islands.'" As more and more people noticed the beauty of El Nido, developers went to the place and put up El Nido hotels, restaurants, some expensive and exclusive, and El Nido dive resorsts to cater to the growing needs of the tourists and visitors alike. For those many who want to have a simple vacation with affordable El Nido hotels and accommodations, simple fan cottages are available with bathroom and veranda where you can kill time in a lazy afternoon.

Of course, El Nido too possesses dive spots in and around its collection of islets.

El Nido, Philippines is the main entrance to the Bacuit Archipelago. You can reach the town by plane from Puerto Princesa or direct from Manila via the island of Busuanga. Because of the numerous islands within the place, one can relax and enjoy anything that El Nido has to offer. In El Nido, there isn't a dull time; you can go snorkelling, diving, swimming, or you can charter a boat and go island-hopping.
