Discovery Shores Hotel, Philippines

The country’s most recent high-class hotel opened its doors in March 2007, and it has already caught the attention of the folks at Small Luxury Hotels of the World who have awarded it their seal of approval and promptly added it to their select portfolio. Discovery Shores Hotel is the first in the Philippines to gain this accolade.
Discovery Shores sits at the north end of White Beach, Boracay, on a fantastic palm-shaded stretch of sand. When it came to planning, the management at Discovery Hotels engaged famous Filipino designer Budji Layug to make his mark.
Layug and his design team deliberately turned their backs on traditional Southeast Asian chi-chi tropical styling and the result is breathtaking; there’s nothing remotely similar to this ultra-cool design anywhere else in the country. Like a gleaming ocean liner turned inside out or a 21st-century Greek village, the clean, pale lines of the buildings tumble down over a small rocky outcrop to meet the fine white sand of the beach. A vast, crisp façade is enhanced with frosted glass and burnished metal trim.
The 88 spacious suites continue the pale and sophisticated theme, with a predominance of stone, pale ceramic and tropical woods, in a style that blends the Art Deco with the now. The suites are open-plan with a huge central bed. CD players and huge flat-screen TVs are the toys you need for in-room entertainment.
The refreshing sound and movement of water is a signature feature of Discovery Shores. A 14-meter waterfall flows with the natural terrain, descending into a pool that feeds flowing conduits on either side of the main walkway.
