It's hard to imagine that nature can create a place as beautiful as this. The Chocolate Hills in Bohol is one of the most visited spots in the Philppines. You get to see wide dome-shaped hills, almost perfect in their individual formation, as far as the eyes can see. More than a thousand (an estimate of 1,776 grass-covered mounds to be exact) of these hills dot the central plains of Bohol; scattered in the central towns, specially in the town of Carmen, Bohol. They turn chocolate brown in color during the warm season because the grasses dry up.
Generally, the Chocolate hills are made mostly of marine limestone, hardened earth mud, and coral deposits sculptured in their present shapes and forms by thousands of years of erosions, geological shifts, wind and rainwater forming into some of the most awe-inspiring sights in the Philippines.
In mythical terms, these hills were formed when two giants had a quarrel and threw at each other large boulders of rocks until they died in exhaustion. When the inhabitants of Bohol came to see the result of the feud, they saw scattered remnants of the Bohol Chocolate Hills.
