Located on the eastern shore of Cebu province in Central Visayas lies Cebu city, the Queen City of the South. Cebu city is an important metropolitan center in the country second only to Metropolitan Manila.

It is the oldest city in the Philippines and abound in cultural heritage that dates back to the early conquest by Spain several hundred years ago.
When one visits Cebu city, one gets to see the place where the beginnings of Philippine Christianity transpired.
Cebu city is one of the most important cultural centers in the Philippines. This was mainly brought about by Spanish influences, of which religion plays a very important role in the shaping of the city's structure. Cebu abounds with religious objects and structures; one of these is Magellan's Cross which is the city's most famous landmark. This cross was brought by Spain's Ferdinand Magellan in 1952 when he arrived in the country. It is presently housed in a chapel in Magellan street between City and Colegio del Santo Niño and is revered by Filipinos.
Just a few meters away from Magellan's Cross, one can find the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño. The church is believed to be the first church established in the country. The church was made minor basilica in rank during the 400th year celebration of Philippines Christianity in 1965. Housed inside the church is the image of the Santo Niño de Cebu, the Philippines' oldest religious relic.
Held every third sunday of the month of January is the Sinulog Festival. This event celebrates the festival of the patron saint of Cebu, Santo Niño. The Sinulod is a dance ritual which is done by moving two steps forward and a step backward dancing with the sound if drums of pre-Hispanic origin.

The city has steadily grown into a large urban center of commerce for the whole province of Cebu. Major corporations and offices have put up their main branches here. Large infrastructure abounds which exports different kinds of goods and products. Cebu City has six (6) major universities that contribute to the heavy flow of people within the vicinity of the area. It is a prime destination second to Manila in terms of business and commerce. The city is easily accessible by way of sea and air travel. From Bohol, Leyte and all most parts of the Visayas, sea transpors come from all direction with Cebu city as the primary port destination. More people reach Cebu City also by way of air travel with major airlines with the help of Mactan International Airport situated in the City of Mactan across the Mactan Channel.
